Better Energy Homes Scheme
The Better Energy Homes Scheme is one of the most popular grant programmes for homeowners. It provides funding for upgrades such as attic insulation, wall insulation (cavity, internal dry lining, or external), heating control improvements, heat pump installations, and solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.
To qualify for insulation and heating control grants, the home must have been built before 2011. For solar PV funding, the property must have been built before 2021. The financial assistance offered under this scheme can cover a significant portion of upgrade costs, often making projects far more affordable.
Warmer Homes Scheme
The Warmer Homes Scheme offers fully funded energy upgrades for households at risk of energy poverty. Eligible homeowners receive improvements such as insulation, draught proofing, energy-efficient lighting, and heating system upgrades without having to pay for the works.
To be eligible, you must own and live in the property and receive specific social welfare supports, such as the Fuel Allowance or Job Seeker’s Allowance with a dependent child under the age of seven.
Solar PV Grant
For homeowners wishing to generate their own electricity, the Solar PV Grant supports the installation of solar panels. This not only reduces energy bills but also helps lower reliance on fossil fuels. Homes must achieve a Building Energy Rating (BER) of C or better after the installation to qualify. The grant amount depends on the size of the system, with funding available up to €2,400.
